Younger Virtual Healthcare

Creating a more accessible preventive healthcare service for Taiwanese patients and a care platform to help physicians interpret test results.

My Role  Product Designer

Client  Younger

Time  June - Aug 2022

Team  3 PMs, 4 BAs, and 2 Engineers

My Task  UX Planning, UI Design, Mockup, Visual Design

Younger is a preventive healthcare provider offering health supplements and patient counseling. In 2022, they incorporate technology to make preventive care more affordable and accessible. With more processes and data transformed digitally, an advanced platform was developed for physicians and care provider to manage and analyze patients’ health record data.

Background

According to a national survey from the World Health Organization (WHO), about 75% of people are in a sub-health state, and only 5% of people have a healthy status. Preventive care helps to prevent diseases through continuous check-ups, patient counseling, health supplements, and so on. However, the majority of people don’t get recommended preventive health care.

My Task

  1. Plan the solution for patients (consumers) and Younger (a preventive care provider).

  2. Design the entire UI of the platform for physicians and care provider.

Research Findings

From the customer feedback and survey collected by Younger (the care provider) over time, we found the barriers to acquiring preventive healthcare include:

  1. Cost

  2. Not having a recommended care provider

  3. Living too far from care providers

  4. Transportation to get preventive medicine or health supplements

  5. Lack of awareness about preventive healthcare

Brainstorm Solutions

To resolve the major barriers, we teamed up with Younger to brainstorm some feasible solutions.

Envision the Process Flow

To visualize the whole process and facilitate team communication, I made a process flow to illustrate how patients apply for preventive healthcare, go for examinations, get results, receive health supplements, and continue the check-up cycles.

Revised the Process Flow

After the internal discussion, we made some alternations to the flow. We added optional steps of post-examination surveys and further tests. There might be some situations that require these steps. For example, the care provider may need further information about the patient’s living habits to give care advice.

Build Minimum Viable Product

When planning patients’ solutions, we want to validate the idea with minimum cost. After research, we decided to incorporate LINE into the service (LINE is a messaging app that is widely used by Taiwanese people). LINE provides a tool called “LINE Mini App” in which service providers can build apps running on LINE with little cost (compared to developing an app). Further, many users may be less willing to download a new app on their phones. By providing care service through LINE, we reduced the cost of development and onboarding user.

Design Physicians and Care Provider’s Platform

Aside from building a solution for patients, another goal we want to achieve is to develop tools for physicians to view, track, and analyze patient health records.

Understand the Domain

Before designing the site structure of the platform, I asked Younger for some examples of testing reports and learn about the examination packages that they want to offer to patients.

Based on the requirements provided by Younger (the care provider), I made the site structure of the platform.

Initial Design of Test Result Section

On Health Report Page - Test Result Section, physicians can add test results, check if they are normal, and find test result history. At first, I quickly lay out the information and interactions to collect feedback.

Design Iteration

After a discussion with Younger (client), product managers, and engineers. I made some iteration based on their feedback.

Explore Different Design of Slide-Out Panel

Highlight abnormal results and check the normal range in slide-out Panels

Edit test result in modals to provide more future design flexibility

Final Design

Takeaway

In this project, I got to learn about the preventive care industry, its potential, and its great benefits to people. Delivering a project in a short time frame can be challenging, and we are still on our way to improving our collaboration.

If I could improve, I’d like to shadow physicians to get a more holistic view of their day-to-day workflow. Overall, I feel grateful to have the opportunity to design for the health industry.
